## Prescription and Applicability

### FAR Prescription, 17.208(d)

(d) Insert a clause substantially the same as the clause at 52.217-6, Option for Increased Quantity, in solicitations and contracts, other than those for services, when the inclusion of an option is appropriate (see 17.200 and 17.202) and the option quantity is expressed as a percentage of the basic contract quantity or as an additional quantity of a specific line item.

Sealed bid solicitations shall not include provisions for evaluations of options unless the contracting officer determines that there is a reasonable likelihood that the options will be exercised (10 U.S.C. 3206(e)). This limitation also applies to sealed bid solicitations for the contracts excluded by FAR 17.200.

As prescribed in 17.208(d), insert a clause substantially the same as the following:

Option for Increased Quantity (MAR 1989)

The Government may increase the quantity of supplies called for in the Schedule at the unit price specified. The Contracting Officer may exercise the option by written notice to the Contractor within ____ [ insert in the clause the period of time in which the Contracting Officer has to exercise the option ]. Delivery of the added items shall continue at the same rate as the like items called for under the contract, unless the parties otherwise agree.
