Contracting officers must remove paper straw requirements from new solicitations, amend open solicitations and modify existing contracts accordingly. Contracts with six months or less remaining in the period of performance and no options to extend are exempt from modification. ## Required Contracting Officer Actions 1. Do not include any requirement for the procurement of paper straws in new solicitations or contracts. 2. Amend open solicitations to remove any requirement for paper straws. 3. Modify existing contracts to remove any requirement for paper straws, except contracts with six months or less remaining in the period of performance and no options to extend. ## Notes Exemption from modification: Contracts with six months or less remaining in the period of performance and without options to extend are not required to be modified to remove paper straw requirements. Duration: This deviation remains in effect until incorporated into the FAR or until otherwise rescinded.
